the need for submission

Unity within The Church, the Body of Christ, demands intentional willingness to submit to one another. The present day Church in many ways has struggled with this, especially in the area of racial unity. The apostle Paul’s letter to the Ephesians provides valuable insights on this topic. In Ephesians 5:21, he writes “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Submission means that we are to allow someone else’s desire, will, or intention to go before yours. Our willingness to submit is rooted in our reverence for Jesus. When we recognize His lordship, we willingly yield to His principles, including unity and love. Without submission, unity cannot occur. Submission flows from love, creating a harmonious tapestry of diverse backgrounds all complimenting the will of Christ. It isn’t about about dominance or suppression; it’s about mutual respect and cooperation. As we submit to one another, we honor Christ and build bridges across racial divides.

May we understand and exercise the value of submission in our relationships as we seek to please Christ in bringing the Church together.
